Kimmy Fasani is one of the most dominant female riders that snowboarding has ever seen. Much like her elders, Fasani learned how to travel in backcountry terrain safely while picking up other essential tidbits of info, like building jumps. The only difference is that Kimmy’s off-piste sisters didn’t have the luxury of learning from a legend like Devun Walsh, and this has given Fasani quite the advantage and has aided exponentially in her rise to fame. Currently laid up with a knee injury, Kimmy is healing fast and will be ready to ride in no time. CATCHING UP with evo TEAM RIDER KIMMY FASANI!
January 28, 2013: evo was lucky enough to sit down recently with Kimmy Fasani and catch up with the evo team rider and see what she had to say about her plans for the year and the gear she was using.

For winter 2013-14, Burton Snowboards is stepping up their game in the women’s market. For over 10 years, the Burton Feelgood has reigned as the most popular women’s all-mountain snowboard on the market. Next year, they release the Day Trader, a more advanced powder, all-mountain board with input from team rider Kimmy Fasani. I caught up with Fasani (who was in a wheelchair) at Outdoor Retailer to talk about the board and her plans for this season as she recovers from an injury. “It has officially reached that point of the winter when, despite my rigorous skincare routine, there seems to be no remedy for my increasingly dry, itchy skin.
Since I can’t resort to total hibernation and warmer temperatures and humidity (which I never thought I’d miss) are at least two months away, I turned to super-cool pro snowboarder Kimmy Fasani for some skincare tips.”

Straying from the competition scene over the past few years, Kimmy Fasani has focused her attention on the backcountry. This year she marks her most significant full part in the history of her career filming for 2112, Standard’s latest full-length feature. Kimmy Fasani has been on quite a ride these past few years. She continues to push boundaries in women’s snowboarding and has helped the sport to progress with her landmark achievements. In 2011, she became the first female snowboarder to land a double backflip in both the backcountry and park. She began 2012 on a high-note, becoming one of only five women ever to score the Transworld Snowboarding cover. With a solid contest and park history, Kimmy has moved into the backcountry recently and continued her dominance by being the first woman to land a double backflip and her transition to full-time backcountry filming. “On December 27th Kelly Clark and myself, Kimmy Fasani, pushed the panic button and made a last minute decision to go find winter. Kelly, who has won 12 consecutive halfpipe contests, would normally be committed to comps however with the shifting of schedules and lack of snow, she ended up with a 10 day window to make a powder trip happen. The truck was readied, the sled was loaded, and the dial pointed North in no time at all, leading the Mammoth local on a beeline towards Whistler, BC. For this installment of Personalities, we talk with Mammoth local and DC pro Kimmy Fasani. Kimmy has already been on fire this season, landing a double backflip on a 50 foot booter in the backcountry last week, during a trip that will be a feature story in the magazine this fall. Instead of giving herself props for landing the double, Kimmy was adamant about thanking the crew for supporting her and giving her the inspiration to try it. That’s just the girl Kimmy is. She’s sweet and sincere and will never pat herself on the back. Deciding to put contests aside for the year and focus on filming for Standard’s TB20, Kimmy is soon headed to Whistler for a month to ride with fellow DC teammates Devun Walsh and Iikka Backstrom. Kimmy stays busy when she’s not on the snow, planning her wedding in September to pro-skier Chris Benchetler, taking care of her pride and joy, little pup Reese and cooking when she’s home. Growing up in Truckee, CA, Kimmy Fasani had nothing better to do than hang with the dudes and huck backflips. A few hundred backflips later and Kimmy had three USASA National titles under her belt, she’d been on Burton, she’d been dropped by Burton, and she’d been picked up by DC. After landing a section in the all-girl film Stance, this season Kimmy is competing in the Dew Tour, is about to give X Games a shot, and is officially filming with Standard Films. As she was trying to rest in the DC Mountain Lab, surrounded by boys watching porno, Yobeat decided to make things worse by asking one of snowboarding’s sweetest ladies the tough questions.

As if being a professional snowboarder weren’t enough, 25-year-old Kimmy Fasani has a BS in Marketing and a pet Terrier to boot. Not only that, but her recent performance on producer Stan Evans and director Jeremy Miller’s STANCE – a new snowboarding flick with an all female cast – leaves fans begging for more. Lucky for us, we’ve yet to see everything the DC sponsored, California native’s got hidden in her arsenal. Success On And Off The Slopes: Local Snowboarder Pursues Higher Education- More Americans are now turning to higher education to survive tough economic times, including one professional athlete from Truckee. 24-year-old Kimmy Fasani is a professional snowboarder who has traveled around the world to compete in her beloved sport. But for many years her other goal was to become a college graduate. “I want to be able to make the choice, ‘okay, if I’m really hurting, I can’t do this much longer’ what do I have to fall back on?” So one day while surfing the internet, she found an ad for a University of Phoenix online degree. She applied and less than two years later, she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Marketing. Since then she has convinced other athletes that online education is possible even with a demanding career. “They have always seen it as something not feasible because we travel so much but if they make it a priority, this is something they can attain.” UNOP Campus Director Kathy Gamboa said online classes have gained popularity over the past few years, and she’s not surprised professional athletes are taking interest. “They have such great discipline and it’s great for them to take advantage of a program they can pursue while enjoying other things they love.” Fasani is back at work, snowboarding around the world. She plans to one day pursue a career in marketing and advertising and motivate other female athletes to go after their dreams.

“Day Two here at Ms. Superpark 5 started a little on the slow side. As the ladies showed up, the wind was whipping across the ridge most the features are situated on. The breeze didn’t slow everyone down though, as Kimmy Fasani and a few friends were still seen charging the channel gap midday.
